To Fishguard and beyond

semi-overcast 13 °C

Hello blogreaders

Despite having constant internet access I've been very bad at writing anything.
We've been in Fishguard in pembrokeshire for about 10 days now and are just about to leave and head up the coast a few miles. Staying with a mate we met in portugal, at our fave campsite, he handily has a hostel where he's very generously put us up for nowt but a few daily chores. Massive thanks to Steve for this.

Fishguard has a pretty daft name and it conjures up all kinds of images, mainly that of a grim harbour smelling of fish, well it did for me! But it is a really lovely little place, with excellent pubs, beautiful walks, friendly people and enough shops to stop you going mental.

We went up the valley one day to Cwm Gwaun and there is a pub that is like going back in time. You wouldn't have even thought there would be any business as the pub is so out of the way, but there were people calling in all the time. the landlady Bessie, is 80 and can hardly get around. She serves Bass out of a jug from behind a serving hatch. A friend we were with was speaking Welsh with her which just made it all even more pleasantly surreal.

Yes it is bloody lovely round here. The other day we went for what I would consider a fairly mammoth walk, to the memorial stone on the way to Strumble head. We saw grey seals swimming and lounging, and then an adder, something I've never seen before. Well worth the aching butt the next two days. The pubs actually have people in them, sell pints for £2.20 and are friendly, something we're not really used to.

But we have to move on, as I haven't even made it back to the motherland of Huddersfield yet to see my Dad and very pregnant friend. We've found out we won't be working at festivals as we'd hoped, so we're free agents again... if lacking in wages.

OK time to drag dave away from the snooker (yawn)

Hwyl Fawr , which apparently means goodbye in Welsh but don't ask me to pronounce it
